At Bizet’s time, it was really hazardous to compose an opera on workers, gipsy women as well as on smugglers. But „Carmen”s music flashes realistic colours. Rousing scenes and lyric evasives are obviously in balance, while the realistic music is based on a perfect character representation. The act is not limited to the recitatives only, but is continuously during the arias and the ensembles.
Carmen became a fascinating, touching masterpiece with its “evergreen” well-known melodies and appears to be one of the best opera of all times.
